Anime Expo 2019

The lines for this convention are sometimes hours long, and large crowds are waiting outside. What for, you ask? Anime Expo started all the way back in 1992, when it was a much smaller event. Since then it has grown to be a huge event in Los Angeles, with 110,000 people attending last year's event.

We were able to watch the event opening from above, a great way to appreciate the massive amount of people that were in the convention center.

Unfortunately, not everyone was able to arrive early and get into the convention center, so there was also a large amount of people waiting outside.

A large screen showed shots of the crowd in the convention center lobby, occasionally switching to the ribbon cutting ceremony area, prompting many cheers from the crowd.

As soon as staff allowed them, attendees began running up the stairs and escalators to get into the exhibit hall.

We decided to head down and explore the exhibit hall ourselves.

Many of the booths were handing out free goodies to excited attendees, items such as adorable masks, calendars, and much more.

Lots of awesome merchandise was for sale in the exhibit booths as well, including themed mystery boxes, figurines, and plushes.

Anime Expo took up most, if not all of the convention center, filling up many rooms with booths, lounges, and more.

There were many premieres taking place, and some were so popular attendees had to have pre-reserve tickets. The popular anime "My Hero Academia" held their Season 4 premiere at Anime Expo, and reservations for the event were gone very quickly.

Some events were taking place off-site, nearby the convention center. We were able to visit the Crunchyroll HQ, being held in the Novo VIP lounge. They had many interactive attractions themed around popular animes such as "Black Clover" and "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime"

There was speculation that next year's Anime Expo would not take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center, but we now know that it will once again be at the LA Convention Center for next year's event, taking place July 2-5.

Tickets for Anime Expo 2020 go on sale on August 16th, 2019!
