Anime Expo is getting closer and closer with just over two weeks left! Here are some artists to check out at this year's Artist Alley!
Who are you and what do you do?
Hi! I'm Cait, but I go by LokiRoki online. I'm a graphic designer and hobby artist.
What part of your work do you most enjoying doing?
Packaging has been really fun for me lately! Since getting into enamel pins a little over a year ago, I've been making backing cards with illustrations unique for each pin and some personal branding. It's been really fun to make something I'm selling look a little more like a full product! I’d like to focus on packaging for my other items like standees too in the future.
How has your art/products changed over time?
Oh man, my art even just a few years ago is way different I think. I’ve tried to improve my anatomy and coloring skills over time! For products, I’ve expanded from just prints and stickers to charms, standees, enamel pins, and heart/cat/circle buttons in the two years I’ve been doing artist alley.
What’s your favorite art work/favorite artist?
I don’t really have a single favorite artist, but off the top of my head, I really admire Sachin Teng, Mateusz Urbanowicz, Emillie Ferris, Kelly Smith currently.
Have you been to Anime Expo before?
Yes, I tabled at AX last year for the first time, it was the first convention I’ve ever traveled by plane for!
What's your favorite part about Anime Expo?
Meeting tons of really amazing artists was so cool, the artist alley is the largest I’ve ever been in and everyone is so talented. I wasn’t able to get away from my table much because of the crowds, but I’d like to try to explore the convention and panels a bit this year!
You can find LokiRoki at booth C49 in Artist Alley!
Who are you and what do you do?
Hi! My name is Marie, also known as Kittygorian. I am a background artist at Floyd County Productions in Atlanta, Georgia, currently working on FX's Archer and other secret projects.
I started attending conventions as an artist in 2016 and got hooked! I love being able to sell my fanart and original work, and I am starting to dip my toes into apparel as well.
What inspires you?
Seeing people's reactions to my work. It is always humbling to experience someone's excitement when they see my art. I love that I can bring happiness through my work and it motivates me to keep making more! I can't thank my audience enough for their support.
What part of your work do you most enjoying doing?
Painting! I really love playing with color. Most times I dread doing lineart, because I just can't wait until I can start coloring. So...sometimes I skip lines (lol).
How has your art/products changed over time?
My style has become more consistent over the years. If I look at my art archives from high school and college, I can tell exactly whose style I was trying to resemble and which artists influenced me over time. My work used to change a lot and everything was all over the place! Now I feel I can look at it and differentiate it among other works, I can tell my style is solidifying, although there is still a lot to work on. Product-wise, I've experimented and expanded into other mediums. When I tabled at my first convention in 2016 I only had prints, stickers, and postcards for sale. Since then I've grow my products to include enamel pins, charms, washi tapes, and just made my first t-shirts this year! It's exciting to see my art on different products.
What’s your favorite art work/favorite artist?
I really love the work of Alphonse Mucha. My favorite piece of his is Reverie.
I also really admire the work of Shingenori Soejima. His Persona 3 artwork was a very heavy influence in my art in middle/high school!
Have you been to Anime Expo before?
This is my first time at Anime Expo! I'm excited and very happy to be here. If you see this, come visit me in the Artist Alley, table C48 for a freebie!
Who are you and what do you do?
PhilthyTurtle. I am a professional perler artist/ partnered streamer for http://twitch.tv
What inspires you?
Retro games for the most part. I love 8 and 16 bit style art.
What part of your work do you most enjoying doing?
Watching my pieces come to life when I start dropping in colors.
How has your art/products changed over time?
I've spent the last few years focused more on custom original fan art instead of using sprites from video games.
What’s your favourite art work/favorite artist?
Banksy
Have you been to Anime Expo before?
This will be my 4th year as an artist alley vendor.
What's your favorite part about Anime Expo?
I love how hectic it can get. A little chaos can be fun sometimes!
Who are you and what do you do?
I am Ivory Ice and I'm a convention artist! By convention artist I travel to sell at different events such as Anime Expo throughout the year. Still not not a full time artist, but I hope to reach that goal someday.
What inspires you?
Queen of Dorks (Claire Belton, aka the owner/creator of Pusheen) was one of my biggest inspirations back on my deviantART days.
Nowadays it's really seeing other artist succeed in their own work is what inspires me to try my hardest.
What part of your work do you most enjoying doing?
Most of the time is interacting with other artist and customers/people when selling at conventions.
How has your art/products changed over time?
When I started off I had smaller, more cheaply made products such as laminated charms, super small buttons made with a cheap Chinese button machine, and paper sticker paper, and tiny charms. Over the years I learned how to make/obtained better quality products along with a wider range of products.
What’s your favorite art work/favorite artist?
My favorite artist have always been Koge-Donbo. I use to look through my volumes of Kamichama Karin over and over to get references back in high school since I didn't really have a computer of my own.
Have you been to Anime Expo before?
Yes! This will be my 13th year attending, and my 5th year selling in artist alley.
What's your favorite part about Anime Expo?
It use to be AX Idol until they stopped it around 2013 (or whatever year the X-Games were held the same year as AX). Currently it's night events such as the Karaoke Game Show and Gong Show, it's a nice way to end the night after working all day in artist alley.
You can find all these awesome artists at this year's Anime Expo!
